Impaction Requirements

Admissions and Impaction

All emphases in the Fowler College of Business are impacted. Before enrolling in any upper-division courses in business administration, students must advance to an upper-division business administration major and obtain a business administration major code.

To be admitted to an upper-division business emphasis (accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, financial services, general business, human resource management, information systems, management, marketing, or real estate), students must meet the following criteria:

  • Complete the following courses with a grade of “C” (2.0) or better:
  • Complete a minimum of 60 transferable semester units
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.9.

These courses may not be taken for credit/no credit (Cr/NC).

Business students who are on track to meet the impaction requirements may be granted contingent enrollment in upper-division business courses for the following semester or term. All impaction requirements must be completed before that semester or term begins. Students who do not meet the requirements may be administratively dropped from upper-division business courses or have a registration hold placed on their academic record until the requirements are met.

Students who have earned at least 60 units but have not yet met the impaction criteria are required to meet with an academic advisor. Contact the Center for Student Success in the Fowler College of Business for more information.

To complete the major, students must fulfill the degree requirements described in the University Catalog in effect at the time they were accepted into the premajor at SDSU, assuming continuous enrollment. Students should also review their degree evaluation for their individual degree requirements.

Changing to Pre-Business

Students who are admitted to or currently enrolled at SDSU as undeclared, or in a major other than Business, may change their major to pre-business administration if they meet one of the following sets of criteria:

Students with fewer than 30 units earned must:

Students with 30-59 units earned must:

Students who have earned 60 or more units must complete all impaction requirements before they can be admitted to an upper-division Business Administration major.
