Minors

The minors offered by the Fowler College of Business provide students with a structured introduction to a specific area of business administration.

The College offers eight minors: accounting, business administration, entrepreneurship, finance, information systems, management, marketing, and real estate.

To declare a business minor, students must:

Complete all minor preparation courses with a grade of “C” or better.
Complete at least 60 units.
Have a minimum overall GPA of 2.9.
Have upper-division status in their declared major

Students must meet the admission and prerequisite requirements in effect at the time they declare the minor. They must also complete the minor requirements associated with the catalog year in which the minor was declared.

Courses applied to the minor may not also be counted toward the major, and vice versa. Students may declare only one minor within the Fowler College of Business.

The requirements listed below are based on the 2026–2027 University Catalog. Detailed information about curriculum requirements, course descriptions, and prerequisites can also be found in the University Catalog.

Students should review their degree evaluation and the University Catalog for their catalog year to confirm the requirements that apply to them.

Admission to the minor in accounting requires students to:

Complete ACCTG 201, ACCTG 202, ECON 101, and ECON 102 with grades of “C” or better.
Complete at least 60 units.
Have a minimum overall GPA of 2.9.
Have upper-division status in their declared major.

The minor in accounting consists of a minimum of 24 units to include:

ACCTG 201, 202, 331*, 332*, 333, and 334
ECON 101 and 102

*For students majoring in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance, the minor in accounting consists of a minimum of 24 units, including:

ACCTG 201, 202, 333, and 334
6 units consisting of ACCTG 431 and ACCTG 532, or 6 units of ACCTG courses numbered 500-599
ECON 101, 102

The minor in business administration provides a general overview of business for non-business administration and international business majors. The minor is particularly recommended for students whose career plans include self-employment or small business management.

Admission to the minor in business administration requires students to:

Complete ACCTG 201 and MIS 180 with grades of “C” or better.
Complete at least 60 units.
Have a minimum overall GPA of 2.9.
Have upper-division status in their declared major.

The minor in business administration consists of a minimum of 21 to 23 units, including:

Admission to the minor in finance requires students to:

Complete at least 60 units.
Have a minimum overall GPA of 2.9.
Have upper-division status in their declared major.

The minor in finance consists of a minimum of 18-21 units, including:

B A 323 is waived for students majoring in the Fowler College of Business or International Business.

The Finance minor is not open to Business Administration majors with an emphasis in Financial Services or Real Estate.

Admission to the minor in information systems requires students to:

Complete MIS 180 with a grade of “C” or better.
Complete at least 60 units.
Have a minimum overall GPA of 2.9.
Have upper-division status in their declared major.

The minor in information systems consists of a minimum of 18 units, including:
