The Partrick-Clayes Center for Career Development cultivates the career and professional readiness of Fowler business students and empowers them to identify and attain meaningful careers.
We do this by offering business focused resources and experience to help them succeed. Our team also collaborates with employers to build a presence on campus and facilitate connections with Fowler students and alumni. Career Resources
Handshake
Search and apply for internships and jobs through your Handshake student account.
Learn about internships and jobs by attending career fairs, professional development workshops, industry panels and other career-related events. You can register for these events by using your SDSUid and single sign-on password to login to Handshake.
Internships for Academic Credit
There are numerous requirements to qualify for academic credit for an internship. The approval process can be time consuming and students are encouraged to start the process early.
There are four internship courses offered by the Fowler College of Business.
BA 401 (1 credit) – elective for non-MGT undergraduates
MGT 401 (3 credits) – required course for all MGT undergraduates
MKTG 402 (4 credits) - elective for Marketing students
BA 780 (3 credits) – elective for graduate students
MIS 495 (3 credits) - elective for MIS undergraduates

The CareerLeader© career assessment and planning tool is specifically designed for business students, and allows you to:
- Assess and understand your unique pattern of business-relevant interests, motivators and skills

Vault is an educational tool that provides you unlimited, online access to comprehensive career information and management tools. If you’re looking for a job or internship, Vault has everything you need. Access Vault through SDSU Library and Information Access website: Vault Campus Edition

Through Canvas you have on-demand access to the Fowler Partrick-Clayes Center for Career Development page, which houses resources and tools essential to your job search and professional development. Resources include career-related informational handouts, samples, worksheets, and webinars to view at your convenience.
Beyond B-School
Fowler graduate business students have exclusive access to Beyond B-School’s online portal containing short impactful presentations and webinars on a range of career development topics. This online portal includes cutting edge career development programs to help you get – and stay – ahead. Access the videos and supplemental information anytime on any device. Graduate Business Students: Visit the Career Management tab in your Blackboard homeroom for the link to SDSU’s Beyond B-School site.
The Fowler Partrick-Clayes Center for Career Development works closely with corporate partners, recruiters, alumni, faculty, University Career Services, and other campus and community partners on a variety of events throughout the year, including:
- Industry panels
- Speaker events
- Career and professional development workshops
- Business career fairs
- Company visits
University Career Services also offers a wide-range of career events, including employer informational sessions, networking receptions, workshops and career fairs, that are open to all SDSU students.
A Partrick-Clayes Center for Career Development staff member will visit your class, student organization meeting, orientation session, or other event for Fowler students, and cover a topic of your choice from this menu.

Overview

An overview of the Partrick-Clayes Center for Career Development including services we provide and how we can help each Fowler student set themselves up for professional success.
Perfect Pitch
(30 minutes)
The brief self-introduction often termed an elevator pitch, can help you make a positive and memorable first impression. This workshop will cover the important elements of an effective elevator pitch, help you craft your own pitch, and include an opportunity to practice.
Rock Your Resume
(20 minute presentation, or 40 minute version with presentation and workshop)
Recruiters spend an average of six seconds looking at a resume before deciding whether a candidate is worth interviewing. This presentation will help you format your resume, and tailor it to your preferred employers by highlighting your most relevant skills and accomplishments, to increase your chances of getting interviews.
Compelling Cover Letters
(20 minute presentation, or 40 minute version with presentation and workshop)
A well-crafted cover letter can open doors. This presentation is designed to help students develop customized and compelling cover letters that help them stand out from other candidates.
Leveraging LinkedIn
(20 minute presentation, or 40 minute version with presentation and workshop)
Students will learn how to develop and maximize their LinkedIn accounts, including how to build an effective profile, research companies, find jobs and internships, and locate and connect with industry professionals and SDSU alumni.
Interview Like a S.T.A.R.
(20 minute presentation, or 40 minute version with presentation and workshop)
This session will focus on teaching the S.T.A.R. (Situation, Task, Action, and Result) method for responding to behavioral interview questions. Learn this important technique for effectively responding to questions that often start with “Tell me about a time when you . . .”
