Sports MBA Class of 2018
Tawnia Allison was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She received her Bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in Linguistics from Arizona State University. Prior to her undergraduate career, Tawnia attended an International Baccalaureate program in Istanbul, Turkey, concluding her high school education spanning three countries. As well as living in a multitude of places, Tawnia has traveled extensively, studying different sports-hub cities. Tawnia has been actively involved with sports her entire life, including playing several sports and managing football and basketball teams. She immersed herself in the sports culture of the cities she has lived in, such as Toronto, Boston, San Jose, Phoenix, and Istanbul. Her experience in the sports industry includes promotions and marketing for major sports events and sports sponsors. For example NASCAR, the Arizona Coyotes, Ironman, Waste Management Open, Playboy Energy Drinks, Jack Daniels, and Tuaca. Upon graduation from the Sports MBA Program, Tawnia intends to pursue a career in marketing for a professional sports organization.
Emma Black was born in Oxford, England but grew up in New Jersey and Singapore. In May of 2007 Emma received her Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology from The University of Leeds, UK. Emma has represented England in Touch Rugby and has competed internationally on many occasions. Emma pursued a number of accountancy qualifications following her undergraduate degree and earned her Chartered Management Accountant & Certified Fraud Examiner designations in 2010. Having spent the past ten years in the field of Forensic Accounting across Asia, Europe and North America, she hopes to apply her wide ranging skills to a sports industry environment. Emma intends to develop a future career in sports event management and is especially interested in endurance events from both a professional and public perspective.
Amie Callaway was born in Murrieta, CA and raised in San Diego, CA. In May of 2016, she graduated with a B.A. in Hospitality Management from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. While attending UNLV, she was a member of the women’s basketball team for all four years. She was the youngest starter in UNLV history as a freshman at 17 and is on the all-time block list at #8. Since her final collegiate season coming to an end in March, Amie has worked as a restaurant manager for a small chain in Las Vegas and San Diego. Upon graduation from the Sports MBA program, Amie intends to pursue a position with a basketball organization at either the collegiate or professional level.
Jackson Dargan grew up in Mission Viejo, California. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a B.S. in Biology. During his time as an undergraduate, he spent time working for Wisconsin Football in team operations, served as an undergraduate researcher in a genetic mapping laboratory and studied abroad through Semester At Sea. Following graduation, Jackson worked for a non-profit organization in Rio De Janiero & Manaus in preparation for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He later moved to San Diego to work in high school sports branding & marketing where he served as the Director of School Relations. Upon Graduation, Jackson hopes to work in operations for an NFL team, with a focus on analytics or business development.
Elizabeth Flores is a California native from the Orange County suburbs of Trabuco Canyon. She graduated from California State University, Fullerton in May 2016 with a degree in Business Adminstration, Communications and Cinema and Television Studies. While at California State University,Fullerton, she focused her courses around marketing, where she took her first sports industry course and had the oppurtunity to work with the Los Angeles Clippers’ maketing team. She was an active member of the Titan Athletics Department and interned as a Sports Marketing Representative, where she learned the insights of the intercollegiate sports industry and chose to focus her sports career in college athletics. During her undergraduate studies, she was a Dean’s List award reciepent and a member of the Lambda Pi Eta National Honor Society. Upon graduation from San Diego State University’s Sports MBA program, Elizabeth intends to purse a career in intercollegiate athletics at a D1 Southern California University.
Caryn Hart was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. Caryn graduated with honors from the University of Florida with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Sport Management as well as French and Economics minors. During her time as an undergraduate, she worked with the football recruiting program, with the men’s basketball program, as a softball manager, and in the University Athletic Center; she also played club soccer and intramural volleyball. Upon graduation from the Sports MBA program, Caryn intends to pursue a career in player analytics with a professional or college football team.
Julia Hernandez was born and raised in San Pedro, California. She attended The Ohio State University, graduating in May 2016 with a degree in Sport Industry and a minor in Spanish. During her undergraduate career, Julia secured internships with the Ohio State Athletic Department and the Cincinnati Reds, and was an active member of Kappa Alpha Theta as well as clubs on campus. Following her sophomore year, Julia studied abroad in the Dominican Republic studying Spanish language and Dominican culture, as well as volunteering with Acción Callejera, a nonprofit organization benefitting disadvantaged Haitian and Dominican children. Upon graduation from the Sports MBA program, Julia intends to pursue a career in baseball operations, focusing on player development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Zachary Ipson grew up in North Las Vegas, Nevada. In April of 2015, Zac received his degree in Finance with an Economics minor from Brigham Young University. Since graduation, he has worked in commercial real estate finance as a financial analyst at a regional bank. As an undergraduate, he was a member of the BYU men’s lacrosse team, competing in the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA). He has spent time as a youth and high school lacrosse coach and official. Upon graduation from the Sports MBA program, Zac intends to pursue a career in finance or analytics with a professional, collegiate, or other sports organization.
Kanta Ito grew up in Irvine, California.and studied at University of California, Santa Cruz to receive his B.A. in Business Management Economics with an Accounting emphasis in 2014. During his time as an undergraduate, Kanta ran and was the President for the Track & Field Club, while coaching High School Track & Field. Following graduation, Kanta became a licensed CPA, coached High School Track & Field for another year, and worked at a Japanese-American CPA Firm for a year and a half. Kanta plans to seek a front office position for a professional sports team upon graduation from the Sports MBA program.
Forrest Lockwood was born and raised in Santa Cruz, CA. He graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in Communication Studies and minor in Music History in June of 2008. While attending school, Forrest worked in the Athletic Department as a Video Assistant, which directly led to a role with the Pac-12 Conference as an Instant Replay Technician “in the booth” at UCLA home football games for nine seasons, and at courtside for UCLA basketball games for four seasons. His varied career has also taken him from NBC Page to the legal departments at the Universal Music Group and Interscope Records in contract management positions. Upon graduation from the Sports MBA program, Forrest hopes to bring his unique prior experience to the front office of a professional franchise in an operations role, while continuing to contribute to the community via a leadership position with a sports-focused non-profit organization.
Nick Loewen was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. In the spring of 2013. Nick received his Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Mount Royal University, where he also spent five years as a member of the Varsity Men’s Basketball team. During his playing career at Mount Royal, Nick won a CCAA National Championship in 2009 and was a finalist in 2012. Upon graduation, he spent some time in Winnipeg working for Payworks Inc; a major payroll provider in Canada. After a brief stint there, he decided to pursue an opportunity to play professional basketball in Spain. Although his first year was mediocre, Nick won a league championship in his second year and helped his team promote to a higher division for the following season. Upon graduation from the Sports MBA program, Nick intends to pursue a career working in the front office for an NBA/NHL ownership group.
Coley Mills was born and raised in San Diego, California. In August of 2015, Coley received a Bachelor of Science in Sports Administration and a Minor in Business Administration from Louisiana State University. As an undergraduate, Coley worked in the Athletic Department in Event Management and the Ticket Office. While working in the ticket office, she learned a lot about ticketing in college sports which led her to an internship with the Philadelphia Eagles’ Ticket Office and Guest Services Department. After completing her internship with the Eagles, Coley worked in the Ticket Operations Department for Monumental Sports and Entertainment. Upon graduation from the Sports MBA program, Coley plans to pursue a career in community relations with a professional sports team.
Greg Morrissey was originally born in Long Beach, California and was raised in Moorpark, California. He attended Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona where he earned a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies Degree in Business Management and Corporate Communication in May of 2014. After graduating, Greg accepted a job offer from Professional Document Services, a legal photocopy service whom handles the documentation of claims litigations for insurance carries, as the field rep manager where he coordinated the daily routes for each field agent across the state of California. Upon graduation from the Sports MBA program, Greg intends to pursue a career in business operations with a professional sports team.
Alissa Perez was born and raised in South Brunswick, New Jersey. She graduated from Susquehanna University in May 2012 with a degree in Business Administration. During her time as an undergraduate, Alissa was a member of the golf team, and she held leadership roles in her sorority, Alpha Delta Pi, as well as many clubs on campus. Since graduation, Alissa has spent four years working in pharmaceutical compliance at Novo Nordisk Inc. Upon graduation from the Sports MBA program, Alissa hopes to pursue a career in the front office of a professional sports team.
Drew Pomeroy was born in Roseville, California and grew up in the small town of Loomis, California. In May of 2016, Drew received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Nevada, Reno. During his time as an undergraduate, he was a part of the Nevada Athletics Marketing and Promotions team, held leadership roles in his fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and worked for the Reno Aces Triple-A Baseball Club. Since graduation, Drew has been working in the front office of the Reno Aces in Baseball Operations and Corporate Partnerships. Upon graduation from the Sports MBA program, Drew intends to pursue a career with a Major League Baseball team or at the University level in Baseball Operations.
Kevin Rorke was born in Walnut Creek, California and grew up in Davis, California. He attended California State University, Chico where in May of 2015 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Business and a Minor in Agriculture. During his time at Chico, Kevin was a member of the Chico State Men’s Rugby team and the Inter Club Council Representative for the Chico State Crops and Horticulture Club, where he helped organize trips and events for the club and was a liaison between the Crops and Horticulture Club and other clubs on campus. Since graduating from Chico Kevin worked for Simplot Grower Solutions as a Crop Advisor in Northern California, where he would work directly with growers to solve fertility and pest problems in a variety of different crops. Upon graduation from the Sports MBA program, Kevin intends to pursue a career in Major League Baseball primarily focusing on the baseball operations side of the business.
Amy Ross was born and raised in The Bronx, New York. She graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in May of 2015 with a B.A. in Print Journalism and a minor in Recreation Park and Tourism Management, and also earned her certification from the John Curley Center for Sports Journalism. As an undergrad, Amy wrote for The Centre Daily Times and Town & Gown Magazine, two local publications in State College, PA. She also interned at Penn State’s Intercollegiate Athletics Customer Relations department selling season tickets and with the State College Spikes, a St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Affiliate, as a promotions/marketing intern. In the Spring of 2014, Amy studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain, where she took sports-focused classes that sparked her interest in the social issues in sport and its impact on society and culture. Upon Graduation from the Sports MBA program, Amy intends to pursue a career in Major League Baseball, primarily focusing on the operations and/or player development of the international offices and farm systems.
Tom Ruyle was born in Berkeley, California and raised in Bozeman, Montana. In the fall of 2016, Tom graduated with honors and received his Bachelor of Science in Business-Marketing from the Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship at Montana State University. As the son of a high school football coach, Tom has been intimately involved in sports from a young age. Tom’s experience in the sports industry includes five seasons as a student equipment manager for Montana State’s athletic department and two summer internships with the Cleveland Browns. Tom also worked as a research analyst intern for CBS Interactive in the summer of 2016. Upon graduation from the Sports MBA program, Tom intends to pursue a leadership role in the sports industry.
Catherine Tricker was born in Santa Monica, California and grew up in San Marino, California. In March of 2013, Catherine received her Bachelors degree in Communication and Political Science from the University of Washington, Seattle. During her time in Seattle, Catherine was a member of the University of Washington Women’s Club soccer team. During her junior year of college, Catherine spent a semester abroad at the University of Cape Town, South Africa where she played on the UCT Women’s soccer team. Following graduation, Catherine worked for Root Sports Northwest on the television broadcast of the Seattle Mariners. Upon graduation from the Sports MBA program, Catherine intends to pursue a career in sport event management or marketing.
