Alumnus Returns to SDSU as an Endowed Professor
Associate finance professor and San Diego State University alumnus, David Nanigian, was named the Dr. Thomas Warschauer Endowed Professor by the Fowler College of Business. Nanigian, who earned his bachelor’s degree in financial services from SDSU in 2005, will also serve as the director of the financial planning program within the college.
The endowment is named for SDSU finance professor emeritus, Thomas Warschauer, who founded SDSU’s graduate and undergraduate financial planning program in 1982. Nanigian is a former student of Warschauer, who is currently administering and conducting research in investment aspects of personal financial planning as a retired annuitant.
It was another one of Warschauer’s former students, Richard Fogg (’03, financial services), who made the endowment possible. “It is a privilege to be the lead donor for the Dr. Thomas Warschauer Endowed Professor to recognize Dr. Warschauer’s years of dedication as he championed the virtues of financial planning at SDSU,” said Fogg, founder of Pacific Coast Financial Planning Group. “With the establishment and support of this endowment, we can honor Dr. Warschauer’s legacy at SDSU which will continue to impact students and shape our industry for generations.”
While Warschauer will continue to complete his research and teach on a limited basis, he will hand over most of the teaching and administrative duties to Nanigian. "I remember David as a kind, focused and competent student who showed sincere interest in my beloved specialization of personal financial services,” said Warschauer. “I am pleased to turn over one of the nation’s first and most respected financial planning academic programs to this capable, accomplished, and enthusiastic young professor.”
