Accountancy and Data Analytics Curriculum
Business prerequisites that have not been met prior to enrolling in the MSA program are expected to be satisfied by completing graduate courses at SDSU.
These courses do not count toward the MSA degree
- BA 640 Financial Reporting and Analysis (undergraduate equivalent: financial accounting ACCTG 201)
- BA 670 Managerial Accounting (undergraduate equivalent: managerial accounting ACCTG 202)
- BA 642 Statistical Analysis (undergraduate equivalent: statistical analysis for business: MIS 301)
- BA 643 Managerial Economics (undergraduate equivalent: microeconomics and macroeconomics Econ 101 and Econ 102)
- BA 673 Organizational Behavior and Leadership (undergraduate equivalent: management and organizational Behavior: BA 350)
- BA 674 Financial Management (undergraduate equivalent: fundamentals of finance: BA 323)
Note: Students with an undergraduate degree in business may satisfy this entire set of prerequisites. Completion of these courses will not count toward the MSA degree. To qualify for the waiving of these classes, students must have taken equivalent courses from an AACSB accredited institution within the past 7 years and have earned at least a grade of B. Accountancy prerequisite courses that have not been completed prior to enrolling in the MSA program must be completed as part of the MSA degree. Students without accounting undergraduate major must take the following three courses:

- ACCTG 620 Financial Measurement and Reporting (equivalent non-MSA course: intermediate accounting)
- ACCTG 621 Accounting Information Systems (equivalent non-MSA course: accounting information systems)
- ACCTG 626 Assurance and Auditing Services (equivalent non-MSA course: auditing)
Note: Students with an undergraduate degree in accounting will have likely completed equivalent courses. Completion of these courses will NOT count toward the MSA degree. Equivalent courses completed prior to enrolling in the MSA program will be waived or replaced with appropriate elective courses as needed. See the SDSU catalog for course descriptions.
The following classes are required classes for all students in the MSA program for all the three specializations (FR/AIS/TAX) regardless of the students’ undergraduate major.
