Sports MBA ’26 Hosts Fundraising Event at Eureka!

The Sports MBA Class of 2026 continued its spring fundraising efforts with a sports trivia night and silent auction at Eureka!, bringing together faculty, alumni, and current students for an evening centered on community and purpose.
More than 30 attendees took part in the event, with all proceeds, along with 20% of food sales, supporting the cohort’s partnership with TECHO. As part of their upcoming study abroad experience in the Dominican Republic, students will work with the organization to help build homes for families in need.
A highlight of the evening was the sports trivia competition, which challenged participants across a wide range of topics, from the Olympic Games to college athletics, the NFL, and Formula 1. The variety of questions created an engaging and competitive atmosphere, encouraging participation from all attendees.
The silent auction added another dynamic element to the night, featuring a range of sports-themed items. The centerpiece was a signed and framed poster of the San Diego State Aztecs women's basketball team. Additional items included curated baskets filled with merchandise from the San Diego Padres, such as bobbleheads, shirts, fanny packs, sunglasses, coffee mugs, trading cards, and koozies.
“It was an awesome opportunity to bring the community together through a fun night of eating and trivia. We’re really excited to take what we raised and put it toward building houses in the Dominican Republic.” - Shay Cannon
“Seeing this event come to fruition was a very rewarding experience. It took a lot of work to plan and execute the silent auction, but it was all worth it. I’m grateful to be part of such a tight knit community that rallied together to support a great cause. Thank you to all who attended and placed a bid!” - Emilio Vargas III
The event was organized by SMBA ’26 students Shay Cannon, Grace Miller, Emilio Vargas III, and Matteo Schiro, whose efforts ensured a well-executed and engaging evening for all involved.
With strong participation and enthusiastic support, the event marked another meaningful step toward the cohort’s fundraising goal, reinforcing the program’s commitment to combining professional development with community impact.
