An Exciting Start To SMBA 25's Summer Session

May 23, 2025

SMBA '25 kicked off their final semester of classes earlier this week with guest speaker Marina Paul. Marina is the founder of Superhera, a women’s apparel and tech brand that aims to create sportswear that is tailored with purpose for the female athletes' body type and movement. Based on her personal experience as a collegiate athlete, Marina recognized a problem with the traditional static sizing between men and women's uniforms that are not inclusive of the various female body types, especially those of female athletes. Superhera was founded with the mission to solve this industry issue. She gave us a glimpse into her journey and what starting her own company has entailed so far, requiring plenty of sacrifices and flexibility. It was an inspiring session about determination and will. We thank Marina for sharing her story and the engaging discussion!

Students also volunteered and attended San Diego Sports Association's Brad Fowler Memorial Scholarship Luncheon, which recognizes high school students who have risen above adversity in their lives and have used athletics to do so. Each of the honorees shared their stories and how sports has helped them thrive despite struggle and achieve their goals of attending a four-year university. SMBA volunteers helped in the setup of the event and welcomed the event attendees. We even got to see some of our past speakers and lecturers including Ronda Sedillo, Dick Semerdjian, and Mark Linder. Awesome to see them out in the community and at this event! Thank you Annie Heilbrunn for allowing us to be a part of this special occasion in the San Diego sports community!

In two months, SMBA '25 will wrap up classes and begin work with a sports organization during their final semester internships. Over the summer, the students are taking classes in managerial accounting, data analytics, operations and supply chain management, management of international sports organizations, and taxation & sports. The cohort will also have a week-long study abroad trip to the Dominican Republic next month where students will attend several MLB academies, as well as work with several nonprofit organizations to serve the local community and help create change that lasts. Exciting things to come!

The application window is still open until June 30th. If you've recently graduated and are looking for your next step, join one of our upcoming information sessions (check out the Request Info section of our website for dates through the end of June) to learn more about Sports MBA.
