Fowler Match Update

December 16, 2021

I am writing to share that the Fowler Match Campaign has concluded. We are so very proud of the significant progress that has been achieved in the past few years. When Ron and Alexis Fowler made their $25 million gift in 2016, their vision was to elevate the college by supporting endowed chairs, professorships, and fellowships as well as scholarships and programs for our students. Thanks to all of our generous donors who shared in this vision, many of these goals have been achieved. We are proud to announce that over $42 million in endowments have been established during the match campaign. The remaining match eligible funds are being held in reserve for future strategic priorities in the Fowler College of Business.

During just the past five years, the college created 16 new endowed faculty professorships, endowed chairs, and fellowships, and established 46 new endowed scholarships. Additionally, the college launched new innovative programs and initiatives while growing its reputation as a nationally ranked business program - jumping from 93 in 2016 to 74 nationally in the 2022 U.S. News & World Report rankings and from 58 to 47 among public universities. The support received from our donors has played an important role in moving the Fowler College of Business forward.

Some of the faculty positions and programs the Fowler Match contributions have helped fund include the following:

  • Ralph V. Whitworth Endowed Chair in Corporate Governance
  • Thomas and Evelyn Page Dean
  • Terry L. Atkinson Endowed Professorship in Finance
  • [Anonymous] Endowed Professorship in Finance
  • Sprouse Endowed Professorship
  • Robert and Amy Abramson Endowed Professorship in Finance
  • Dennis and Elaine Szeto Endowed Professorship in Finance
  • Glazer Outstanding Lecturer Fellowships (5)
  • Goddard Family Faculty Endowed Fellowship in Auditing
  • Richard and Susan Seiler Endowed Faculty Fellow in Taxation
  • Julie Dillon Endowed Faculty Fellow in Real Estate
  • Accountancy Advisory Board Faculty Fellow
  • Wendy Gillespie Center for Advancing Global Business
  • The Fowler Scholars Program
  • Osinski Family Women in Leadership Endowment
  • Greg and Elisabeth Fowler Career Management Center Endowment
  • Gilbert J. Martin Foundation Endowed Scholarship
  • Corporate Governance Institute Shareholder Value Endowment

These Fowler Match Campaign endowments have funded initiatives that will continue to impact the lives of SDSU faculty, business students, alumni, and the broader community for many years to come.

While we are pleased with the significant accomplishments achieved during the Fowler Match campaign, there continue to be important initiatives within the Fowler College of Business that we seek to fund. The college’s top priorities include the Financial Markets Lab, endowed faculty positions, experiential learning programs, and career readiness, including greater paid internship opportunities for students. We look forward to sharing additional examples of our success with you as well as our future goals as we move to support these critical areas.

We are extremely grateful to Ron and Alexis Fowler for their tremendous support of the Fowler College of Business and for making all of this possible. In addition, we’d like to thank all of the donors for their part in helping make these achievements possible. They will forever be a part of our legacy.

With gratitude,

Dr. George (Joe) Belch, PH.D.
