Nita Umashankar, Ph.D.

Nita Umashankar is an associate professor of marketing at San Diego State University. Before her tenure at SDSU, she was an associate professor at Georgia State University after completing her doctorate at The University of Texas at Austin.
Umashankar’s research explores the impact of corporate decision-making on marketing outcomes. She also researches how to improve high-touch services, particularly in impoverished and underserved communities. She has published in premier academic journals, including Marketing Science, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Strategic Management Journal, and Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science. She serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Marketing and the Journal of Marketing Research. She is also on the editorial review board of the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science and Journal of Public Policy & Marketing.
Umashankar has won several research and teaching awards and has received several grants. In addition, she enjoys mentoring students in several campus organizations, including Women in Business, American Marketing Association, and International Business.
