Supplemental Education

The center looks to supplement the finance and real estate curriculum offered in the Fowler College of Business by supporting and subsidizing training. Examples of this include:

#

Modeling Instruction

The center co-sponsors a REFM class for interested students that is highly focused on the fundamentals of real estate financial underwriting and modeling. Giving the students a real time opportunity to learn Excel-based modeling skills widely used in the industry. The class expands upon the excel based training in the finance major and focuses on real estate case studies, employing many of the critical concepts learned in the finance and real estate majors. The center sponsored both widely recognized REFM and Argus classes for credit and certification and is launching a 5-week accelerated analyst program taught by alumni.
#

NAIOP Challenge Team

Annually, SDSU fields a diverse team of students to develop a business plan around a real estate development or re-development opportunity in San Diego County. The students develop a business plan, detailed financial analysis, and presentation materials. The students present to a seasoned group of local real estate professionals that serve as judging body, then do a full presentation in front of a live audience. The competition is against other local university programs and garners a great deal of attention. The experience is irreplaceable for the students. SDSU has been fortunate to take home the trophy on numerous occasions.

Presentation Skills

The center uses an artificial intelligence application to teach students how to effectively present their research and analysis. The center recognizes the importance of both technical and communication skills to better prepare students to be immediately productive in the work environment.
