SDSU Students Showcase Their Companies During Entrepreneur Day 2018

Now in its ninth year, Entrepreneur Day provides SDSU students and alumni the opportunity to exhibit their companies, products and services in tents situated along the Centennial Walkway on the university’s central campus.  The event is staged annually by SDSU’s Lavin Entrepreneurship Center.

This year, the event was held on Wednesday March 7 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. with 54 SDSU students and SDSU alumni showcasing their businesses. Some businesses, such as Oggi’s Pizza & Brewing Company, have been a regular attendee at Entrepreneur Day for a number of years (Oggi’s vice president, Estella Ferrera, earned her MBA at SDSU in 2009). But most companies at the event were less than a year old and presented their company at Entrepreneur Day to test their marketability.

A number of business offered raffles or free samples to the public and all agreed that the event was a good place to get some one-on-one feedback from potential customers. For example, SDSU alumni-owned Shake Smart was testing its new banana and peanut butter sandwich to get feedback from the attendees.

Entrepreneur Day is part of a larger entrepreneurial celebration at SDSU which includes a major academic conference – the California Entrepreneurship Educators’ Conference – that takes place April 12 - 14.  This year, the theme of the conference is “Creative Disruptions” and includes a trip to Baja California, Mexico to explore the region’s budding entrepreneurship climate focused on the entertainment, food and wine industries.
