A team of five Fowler finance majors earned a spot at the CFA Institute Research Challenge sub-regionals following their victory over three other San Diego-area universities on February 15.  The team from SDSU turned in the winning presentation after they were asked to analyze the value of a specific stock, develop a research report, and then share their recommendations to a panel of judges.

Accompanied by their faculty advisor, Fowler finance professor Kamal Haddad, the team will next compete with nine other student teams from across the western U.S.  The competition culminates with the global finals which will be held during the week of May 13 in Warsaw, Poland.

Another student team from Fowler won the California regional division of the 2024 Venture Capital Investment Competition. They will move on to the Global Finals at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from April 12 - 13.

Once there, the SDSU student team will be competing with eight other regional winners from the U.S. and Canada, where they will be asked to play the role of venture capitalists who are analyzing opportunities in several real-life start-up companies. They then present their investment strategy to a panel of judges who review and evaluate each presentation to determine the overall winner.

The team’s alumni advisors are Robert Schulte (’05, MSBS) and Paige Doherty (’20, computer science).
