SDSU Named Preferred Provider of Top-Quality Business Employees by San Diego EDC
The San Diego Economic Regional Development Commission (San Diego Regional EDC) recently recognized San Diego State University as a Preferred Provider for delivering top-quality business training for high-demand jobs.
Established earlier this year, the San Diego Regional EDC’s Preferred Providers for business programs consists of SDSU and three other local universities, two community colleges and one extension program. Preferred Providers are evaluated on “a skills-based criteria developed by industry, a commitment to industry engagement, and their ability to reach and serve a diverse student body.”
Based on its commitment to providing small companies and start-ups with the tools they need to succeed, the San Diego Regional EDC has teamed up with the business Preferred Providers to provide 12 of these organizations access to trained student interns at no cost to the company.
This offer is managed through the San Diego Regional EDC’s Advancing San Diego Internship Program, which provides businesses with under 100 employees access to trained business student interns enrolled at Preferred Provider institutions. The program will pick up the tab for the interns’ salary at a cost of $20 per hour.
Here’s how it works:
- Small businesses/start-ups create an internship job description that fits their needs.
- Advancing San Diego will review and prepare students for entry-level positions.
- Advancing San Diego provides businesses with a pool of qualified student interns available for hire.
- Student internships start in March 2021.
