Nina Capuani enjoyed her time at San Diego State University to the fullest. While juggling her studies as an Integrated Marketing Communications student, with a minor in Sustainability, Capuani made time to hone her leadership skills outside of the classroom by getting involved in campus student organizations. She credits this experience as integral for securing a job with Amazon prior to graduation and encourages students to begin their career search early.
Nina is a Midwest native, originally from Addison, Illinois, who now looks forward to beginning a new chapter in her journey with Amazon in sunny San Diego!
Q: Can you describe a little bit about yourself and how/when you decided to pursue Integrated Marketing Communications as an area of study?
I always knew I wanted to work in the business world, yet I’m a very creative person. The Integrated Marketing Communications major combines both business and creativity in a perfect union.
Q: Describe the position you will begin after graduation (job functions, key role).
As an Area Manager for Amazon in San Diego, I will be developing and leading my own team of 50 to 200 Amazon associates. My main focus will be motivating, mentoring, and coaching my team while proactively identifying and leading process improvement initiatives.

Q: When did you receive your official job offer and what was your reaction when you received the offer?
I received my job offer on October 29, 2019. I was so excited to know that I would be employed after graduation! I called my parents immediately and they were just as excited and happy for me. A huge weight was lifted off my shoulders since I landed an incredible position at the start of the school year.
Q: How did you get connected with this company and position?
An Amazon Recruiter emailed me about the position. After a two-week interview process, I was offered the job.
Q: Did you use any other campus resources to help you acquire this position? If so, describe the support.
I didn’t necessarily use campus resources to acquire this particular position. However, I was actively attending career fairs to network and hone my interviewing skills, while also, using Handshake.
Q: Are there specific skills you learned at SDSU (in class or otherwise) that helped you with the role’s qualifications?
SDSU gave me leadership skills that helped me with the role’s qualifications. I demonstrated leadership by being on the executive board for Women in Business, a KCR College Radio member, and a beach volleyball teammate.
Q: What advice do you have for fellow students, regardless of their field, looking to jumpstart their career and land their first job post-graduation?
The best advice I could give fellow students is to start your career search early! There are many opportunities out there that you can start applying to. It’s very rewarding to have an offer for post-graduation early on.
