Jose (left) and Maria Healy celebrate Maria’s first graduation from SDSU in 2019.

Did your college experience influence your parenting style? If so, how?
Jose: Yes, studying a master's program at SDSU gave me more knowledge to initiate and manage companies. In a way this allowed me to counsel my children regarding their future professional careers. As an MBA graduate of SDSU, I was able to advise my daughter as she pursued her undergraduate business degree and her Master's in Accounting, both at San Diego State University.

Did your dad’s education at SDSU inspire you to attend?
Maria: Yes, I have always looked up to my father and trusted his recommendations. His positive experience at SDSU played a big part of my decision to choose the Fowler College of Business for my undergraduate program, and now, for my MSA program.

How do you think your SDSU experience was different from Maria’s?

Jose: As an older student, I had more work experience during my MBA program. However, what I have noticed is that Maria has access to more technological advances which has facilitated the transfer of materials to complete her business administration undergraduate degree and her MSA program. It is amazing to see how this has helped improve communications among her classmates and professors.

When do you anticipate you’ll earn your MSA?
Maria: My plan is to graduate next May during 2023.

How has your SDSU education assisted in your career goals?
Jose: One thing that I especially remember during my time as an MBA student is the team of professors who are all very prepared — especially in the finance and marketing departments. This is something that has greatly benefited my professional career.

Maria: SDSU's dynamic community has provided many opportunities of professional and personal growth. For example, being able to join different organizations such as Delta Sigma Pi, attend professional events, and form a positive network of peers and friends have given me perspective and motivation to pursue high goals!
