Fowler finance students Anthony Waldrop, Dylan Fitzpatrick, Bekhruz Nuriddinov and Aiden Resnick won the San Diego regional CFA Institute Research Challenge over four other competitors.

Fowler finance students Anthony Waldrop, Aiden Resnick, Dylan Fitzpatrick and Bekhruz Nuriddinov bested the student teams from the University of San Diego, California State University San Marcos, and two teams from the University of California, San Diego during the annual student competition which was held as a virtual event this year. Finance professor Kamal Haddad served as the team’s faculty advisor.

Prior to the competition, each student team was asked to analyze a hypothetical investment for a publicly traded local company (in this instance, Carlsbad-based Callaway Golf Company) and create a report indicating a buy, sell or hold recommendation. The recommendation is then presented to a panel of judges consisting of San Diego CFA Society members who are certified financial analysts for critical review and evaluation.

“After doing weeks of research and analysis, the team submitted a well-defined and detailed report outlining their recommendations to the judging panel before giving their final presentation,” said Haddad. “They were very involved in the whole process and confident about their final recommendations. Their passion for the project and attention to detail clearly paid off.”

The student team from SDSU will compete in the sub-regional finals against teams from universities throughout the western United States on March 20.
