Nita Umashankar is an associate professor of marketing at San Diego State University. She completed her doctorate at The University of Texas at Austin in 2010. Dr. Umashankar’s research explores the impact of corporate decision-making on marketing outcomes. She also researches how to make high-touch and competitive service contexts more effective. Finally, she uses marketing principles to design interventions that help marginalized and impoverished consumers. She has published in premier academic journals, including Marketing Science, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Strategic Management Journal, and Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science. In addition, she is on the editorial review board of Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and Journal of Retailing.
Dr. Umashankar enjoys teaching marketing research and has won several national and local teaching awards. In addition, she enjoys mentoring students in several campus organizations, including Women in Business, American Marketing Association, Business for Social Good, and International Business case competitions.
