Fowler Names 2024 Glazer Outstanding Lecturer Fellowship Endowment Recipients
Two long-time lecturers in the Fowler College of Business have been named the recipients of the Glazer Outstanding Lecturer Fellowships for 2024.
Michael Sloan, a management lecturer for 17 years, and James Vogt, a lecturer in the Charles W. Lamden School of Accountancy for nine years, have been selected as two-year fellowship appointees. Each of the recipients will receive a commemorative plaque, a salary supplement and special funding to support their professional development activities.
Selection as a Glazer Lecturer Excellence Fellow awardee is based on a record of excellence in teaching and a history of sustained service and dedication primarily to students, and to the Fowler College of Business and to the university.
Vogt was the recipient of a 2023 Teaching Excellence award from the Fowler College of Business and was named “Most Influential Faculty Member” by the top student in the Master of Science in Accountancy in 2024. He is an expert in forensic accounting and fraud detection and earned his credentials as a certified fraud examiner in 2008.
"Having the opportunity to educate and inspire students and introduce them to potential unique career paths is incredibly rewarding,” said Vogt. “The key ingredient is to show students I truly care — about them as individuals, their learning experience, and the promise of their futures. I feel honored to be recognized as a Glazer Fellow and proud to be acknowledged for doing the work I love."
Sloan spearheaded the partnership between Costco and Fowler which resulted in internships for dozens of Fowler students. He was also named the “Most Influential Faculty Member” by the top business student in 2020 and was a recipient of the Allan Bailey Service Awards for Lecturers in 2019 for his award-winning work with SDSU’s entrepreneurial students.
“The opportunity to have a significant impact on the careers and lives of our students gives my life purpose, " said Sloan. “I am incredibly humbled to have been recognized as a Glazer Fellow and to continue the work I find so rewarding.”
The Glazer Outstanding Lecturer Fellowships were established by SDSU alumnus and benefactor, Jeff Glazer (81, MBA), who served as a lecturer in the finance and management departments at the Fowler College of Business from 1985 until he retired from teaching in 2012.
“Lecturers teach because of their passion for educating students,” said Glazer, who founded the fellowship in 2021. “I created this fellowship to recognize our lecturers’ significant contributions to their students, the university and the community.”
Sloan and Vogt were presented with their plaques during a reception in their honor on October 18.
