Dodgers Women's Conference

SMBA ‘25 attended the third annual Los Angeles Dodgers Women’s Conference on September 18th at Dodgers Stadium. The conference, produced by Women’s Opportunity Network (WON), hosted over 500 industry professionals to network, learn, and be inspired with the mission of creating a more inclusive future for everyone.

The event began with a fireside chat, hosted by ESPN’s Pamela Maldonado, featuring FanDuel CEO, Amy Howe. Attendees also heard from President of the LA Sparks, Christine Monjer, San Diego native and SDSU track and field alumna champion, LaTanya Sheffield, philanthropist, entrepreneur and author, Cookie Johnson, President of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Nicole Brown and more. Afterward, everyone then attended breakout sessions which focused on four separate areas of the workforce: sports and entertainment, technology, talent representation and innovation.

Sumaia Wegner (‘25) who was in attendance, offered, “Being assured that in order to succeed in any career, I need to keep being my authentic self, was my biggest takeaway from all the insight I got at the Dodgers Women’s Conference. I am so grateful for the opportunity to attend such an empowering event.”

Nereida Negrete (‘25) also in attendance, added, “Some key takeaways that really stuck with me from the panel that I attended was about how it is important to have compassion, especially in a leadership role. Of course we all want to be successful, but it is important to make sure that those working alongside you are being taken care of and checked in on to make sure that they are doing okay in and out of the workplace. It was empowering to see so many women in VP and SVP roles, especially in such a male dominated industry. From someone who has only ever had male bosses or managers, it was really amazing to hear about the way that these women approached their leadership roles, their teams, and how they continuously navigate them to success.”

SDSU Sports MBA was thrilled to take part in this empowering conference, dedicated to creating a safe and equitable space for women in sports and entertainment. Thank you to the Women’s Opportunity Network for putting on such a special event!
