What has happened in your life since you left SDSU 10 years ago?

I became a CPA right after graduating because the curriculum at SDSU is aligned with real world knowledge and professional exams.

I’ve worked in industries from public accounting to government.

I spent some time away from San Diego but was lucky enough to find my way back.

Where are you working now? What is your title?

I am fortunate enough to be a lecturer at my favorite university, San Diego State University. I teach Accounting Information Systems, Intermediate Accounting, and Financial Reporting classes.

What was your favorite memory from SDSU?

I have great memories of teaching the lab sections of Financial Accounting with Professor Grudnitski and fellow graduate teaching associates. Also gaining insight into research from Professor Damon Fleming and making analytics presentations with Professor Nancy Jones.

What was the most important lesson you learned at SDSU?

That you can find peace and opportunity during difficult times. Everyone knows something you do not and they will be eager to show you when you are ready.

What advice would you give current SDSU business students?

College is quick but the effects can be lasting. Take advantage of university offerings and changing tides quickly.

Students should ask “What are the things at this school beyond the classroom that interest me?” If you see something you think is interesting, you should go for it.
