A Week of Class at Torrey Pines
One of the Sports MBA programs longstanding and valuable partnerships is with the Century Club of San Diego, the non-profit organization that puts on the annual Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course.
This year, in addition to traditional event operations roles such as entrance ambassador and social caddie, students were tasked with collecting survey data from patrons as part of a project with the Century Club and Red Door Interactive, a San Diego based digital marketing agency.
As the only PGA Tour event with a Wednesday to Saturday schedule thanks to the NFC/AFC Championship games on Sunday, the Farmers Insurance Open is in a unique position with three weekday rounds. The students surveyed tournament attendees and non-attendees alike to learn about what motivates them to attend events and how future iterations of the event can drive attendance at its Wednesday “Opening Day” sessions.
SDSU Sports MBA was thrilled to participate in this iconic San Diego event and spend a week of class sessions onsite at the picturesque Torrey Pines Golf Course.
We are grateful to once again partner with the Century Club and their small, but mighty, staff for the opportunity to work alongside them as they put on one of the marquee events in the San Diego sports calendar.
We are also thankful to our newest collaborators, Red Door Interactive, for the tour of their spectacular headquarters and their incredible staff for engaging with students in each part of the process to develop a data-driven marketing campaign.
