The Fowler Corky McMillin Center for Real Estate works closely with the Real Estate Society to ensure success for our members. TCMCRE helps put on events and provide resources to network and connect students with professionals. The center has also created a mentorship program for students interested in real estate who want guidance for their futures. In particular, Mark McMillin has been a huge help in coordinating impactful events for our members and providing support when needed.

The RES exposes their members to a variety of job opportunities in the San Diego real estate market. Mary Blaugh (Junior, International Business), President of the RES, discusses the guest speakers, case studies, and various events that take place within the Real Estate Society.

About the Real Estate Society (RES)

Q: What events, gatherings, and activities does your organization host?

On Mondays, The Real Estate Society hosts guest speaker events with highly successful real estate professionals in San Diego. On Fridays, we host case studies where we take students to developments in San Diego to get private tours of construction sites such as personal homes, apartment complexes, community developments, and life science buildings.

Q: Why should students join your organization?

Students should join RES to learn about the in depth aspects of development, commercial, and residential real estate outside the classroom in real life occurrences. Joining RES also provides students access to connections, job/internship opportunities, scholarships, and workshops.

Mary Blaugh, President of the real Estate Society

Q: As a student leader involved with an organization at SDSU, can you share why you got involved and what your experience has been like so far?

I got involved with RES to learn more about what the real estate industry has to offer and to learn from professionals who have succeeded in the San Diego market. Taking this leadership role has allowed me to gain confidence in my abilities to make a positive impact on students' futures and support their professional development. I have enjoyed fostering an educational community of like minded individuals and witnessing the ripple effects that continue. Having the opportunity to plan and execute events that bring the real estate community in San Diego together has been incredibly rewarding and fulfilling.

Q: What experience with your organization has been the most impactful?

Working with my team on the Executive Board of RES has taught me many valuable skills pertaining to collaboration, teamwork, and effective communication. The board of RES is extremely hardworking and committed to making the Society the best it can be.

Q: Why is getting involved on campus important to you?

Getting involved on campus has been a monumental addition to my experience at SDSU that has led me to important communities I would not have found otherwise. Having a space to relate to like minded individuals has been a profound educational catalyst and given me many opportunities.

Q: What has been your favorite SDSU memory so far?

Q: What is the best advice you have received during your time at SDSU?

The best advice I have received at SDSU has been to stay curious.

Q: What career aspirations do you have following your time at SDSU?

After SDSU, I want to secure a fulfilling position and then eventually start my own business. I hope to own my first property at age 25.
