Hidden in the Chula Vista rolling hills lies one of the largest high performance training centers in the United States, the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center. As one of 19 designated Olympic and Paralympic Training Centers endorsed by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, the venue provides live-in training facilities for athletes, coaches and staff for summer and winter sports with fields, tracks, gyms and dining halls fit for the best athletes in the world.
While the students toured, they gained an insight into the high performance sports world, observing practices and facilities for athletes from the USA and around the world training for rugby, archery, BMX, athletics and even the San Diego Loyal, to mention a few.
The 2023 SDSU Sports MBA cohort was lucky enough to be joined around the venue by Andrew De Maria, Corporate Sales & Special Events Manager and Stephanie Inskeep, Visitor Relations Manager. Further, the students participated in an intimate and exclusive panel with Spencer Jamison, VP Business Development, Elva Espinoza, VP People and Culture, and Tyler Amorese, Operations Manager, who all shared their insights as part of their work with the CVEATC.
Amongst the key learnings from the afternoon was the importance of attention to detail whilst maintaining a focus on relationships. In the high performance sports world in particular, flexibility is paramount when it comes to scheduling, programming and facilities management. Where the performance of the sport is the primary focus for the teams and athletes, the CVEATC is set up to help achieve those goals by providing one of the best training facilities in the world.
