The Fowler Scholars Program was created to educate and prepare a select group of Fowler College of Business students for accelerated and lasting leadership roles in global business and society. Each year, the college selects a new group of freshmen from the local San Diego area to become Fowler Scholars. The students who are selected for the program have demonstrated leadership, ethical conduct, and exceptional academic and collaborative abilities.

Adam Ferdman, a Class of 2026 Fowler Scholar, is a freshman majoring in Finance. On campus, Ferdman is active with intramural basketball and football. He is also a diligent member of the Fowler Scholars Newsletter team. Ferdman discusses his first semester experience, describes what being a Fowler Scholar means to him, and more.

Q: What does it mean to you to be a Fowler Scholar?

To me, being a Fowler Scholar means that I have the great opportunity of learning from many of the people I aspire to be like as well as working with many like-minded people. I am very honored to have been chosen to be a part of this amazing program.

Q: Can you describe a little bit about yourself and how/when you decided to pursue financial services as an area of study?

I always knew that I wanted to pursue a career in business, yet which aspect of business I only found out recently. I did a lot of research and found that finance is a field that I think I could succeed in. I chose finance because it is an in demand field of business that comes with an abundant amount of opportunities.

Q: What experience in the Fowler Scholars Program has been the most impactful?

Learning from the guest speakers we had so far like Nick Konat and Ed Baldry has been the most impactful experience in the Fowler Scholars program so far. The information and business insight the guest speakers brought was extremely valuable. I enjoyed getting to pick the minds of these successful people.

Q: Who inspires you and why?

One person that inspires me is my dad. His hardworking and never quit mentality is definitely something that I want to replicate. Whenever I want to quit or am having a tough time, I think of my dad and it inspires me to keep pushing through.

Q: What is the best advice you have received during your time at SDSU?

During my first semester at SDSU, the best piece of advice that I received was to work hard now so you can have fun later. This is something that I have really thought about during my time at SDSU. It is imperative that I must give everything I have now if I want to be successful in the future.

Q: What career aspirations do you have following your time at SDSU?

Following my time at SDSU, I hope to become a financial manager at a company and eventually branch out to start my own business. Working for myself is a goal that I really want to achieve. I believe that I have the capability to run a successful business.
