The SDSU Sports MBA Class of 2023 recently had the pleasure of hosting Nathan Kopp, Director of Sports San Diego for a guest lecture about his career and the future of sporting events in San Diego. In his time with the students, Nathan discussed the recent creation of Sports San Diego as an entity and provided an overview of how he and his team collaborate with leagues, tournaments, and sports organizations to recruit and host sporting events in San Diego County. Nathan spoke specifically about the day-to-day operations of the organization, as well as the successes and struggles that are part of his day-to-day at Sports San Diego.
We appreciate Nathan for taking time out of his busy schedule to speak to students who are envisioning a career in sports management after their successful completion of the Sports MBA program. His insight into the local sports industry, especially on the aspect of recruitment and organization of San Diego sports events of all kinds, was very insightful. Nathan’s perspective only reinforced the marketing and operations lessons that students are gaining from their academic studies within the program. Thank you, Nathan!
