Did your college experience influence your parenting style? If so, how?
Brent: SDSU helped me establish a community of friends and colleagues and that has influenced my parenting style. This helped instill a sense of community in Jacob, through coaching (Little League, and soccer), and service in the community through our church to give back.This has helped guide him in learning how to connect with others.   

Did your dad’s education at SDSU inspire you to attend? 
Jacob: I would say that my dad’s education at SDSU inspired me to attend to a certain extent. I felt that it was the best place for me and it just so happened that my dad is an alum. Growing up, I would go to SDSU sports events every now and then, which made me like SDSU before I even applied. 

Other than the type of degree, how do you think your SDSU experience was different from Jacob’s?
Brent: It’s much different now than when I was at SDSU.  Technology has made a big difference in how students learn.  We had to use the library when we needed to do research, whereas today kids can use a laptop or phone to conduct research or gather information.  Also, students were able to connect virtually and set up potential roommates, which made the transition to living on campus much easier.  Lastly, the communities around San Diego have grown so much and there are even more areas and things to see and explore. The trolley runs right through SDSU now which makes it easy to get to the mall or Little Italy and its Piazza and even the Gaslamp district.  

When do you anticipate earning your bachelor’s degree?
Jacob: Spring of 2025

How did your SDSU experience impact your life?
Brent: Overall I had a great experience at SDSU, both academically and socially.  It provided me an excellent education, which has enabled me to excel in the professional world.  I also met many people that I remain friends with to this day.  I tell Jacob to explore the SDSU environment, meet new people, play Intramurals, join a club or fraternity.  Work hard and have fun.  This is an important stepping stone to your future!

I had a pretty positive experience at SDSU my first year. I was able to get a really good job and it did take up most of my time. However, I feel that the Fowler College of Business provides a great network to connect students with alumni.
