Did your college experience influence your parenting style? If so, how?
Greg: I would say it sure did. College teaches you that being independently driven and
not afraid of hard work are keys to personal and professional success. While I always
supported my kids, as a parenting style key attribute I also made sure they had to
work hard and be driven to succeed for them, not me. Supporting your kids is critical
to their development and growth, however giving them guidance and educating them on
having a great work ethic is far better than being a helicopter parent.
Did your dad’s education at SDSU inspire you to attend?
Breanna: Yes, my father’s education at SDSU inspired me to attend this university. I have
seen the way the university has supported my father and how he supported it right
back. I wanted this same relationship with the university that my father has. It also
helps that the school is ranked in the top 50 for its undergraduate business program.
So, yes, while my father’s SDSU education inspired me, it wasn’t without merit given
SDSU’s outstanding business program.
Cullen: Yes, I think it did, to a point. His attendance at SDSU played a factor in my going there and helped to establish my belief that SDSU is a quality, high caliber school.
How do you think your SDSU experience was different from Cullen and Breanna’s?
Greg: Harder for them than me. Pretty simple, it's so much more competitive now than when
I was in college. Anyone can attend from around the globe with relative ease and that
makes the population of competitive students that much more intense. Plus, now SDSU
is so well known and a target for so many students outside of Southern California
its super hard to make your case for getting in. That's great for the school but it
makes for a much different experience than when I was in school. To be fair, I doubt
I'd get in today!
Cullen, when did you earn your bachelor’s degree?
Cullen: I earned a bachelor’s degree in finance in the summer of 2020. I also started my master’s
degree at SDSU but transferred to a school in Colorado where I moved during the COVID
pandemic.
Breanna, when did you earn your bachelor’s degree?
Breanna: I graduated magna cum laude in May 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in management and
a specialization in human resources.
What are your feelings about SDSU?
Greg: SDSU is an amazing institution not only for San Diego and Southern California, but for the entire U.S. and it is now becoming a globally recognized institution. It’s awesome to see the growth and impact the school has on academic research; businesses lucky enough to hire SDSU graduates and the value they bring; and to see SDSU athletics reaching the highest level of success. Just wait for the impact the new Mission Valley campus will have on driving SDSU into the top tier spotlight of any higher education institution. We, SDSU, has come a long way but the best days are ahead for the school, I'm 1000% sure of that. I'm proud to be an SDSU grad and 2X SDSU Dad. Go AZTECS!!!
Breanna: I enjoyed my time at SDSU immensely. Between meeting new people, creating professional relationships with mentors, exploring many areas of study beyond what I could have imagined, joining the SDSU SHRM chapter, and even going to museums for class credit, I know my experience at SDSU has shaped me into a well-rounded, capable professional and I am excited to serve the community as an SDSU alumnae.
Cullen: SDSU has many great attributes, but the best part about SDSU are the opportunities it offers. Whether it’s in the classroom or out of it, SDSU opens doors for opportunities for the future.
