Did your college experience influence your parenting style? If so, how?
Brian: One of the reasons I came to SDSU was for the weather and beaches! I also love to be active so whether it’s on the golf course, tennis court or at the beach, there’s always lots to do. As a parent, my wife and I encouraged our kids to participate in school sports and other outdoor activities that San Diego has to offer! It’s a healthy and active lifestyle that we see our kids carrying on today.

Did your dad’s education at SDSU inspire you to attend? 
Matthew: I love living in San Diego and have always aspired to live here long term. My dad told me early on that going to school at SDSU will provide a great network of friends once school is over. Whether it’s from a personal perspective or as business associates, I realized that going to SDSU would provide lots of connections and opportunities.

How do you think your SDSU experience was different from Matthew’s?
Brian: Well for one, I didn’t have to endure a pandemic like these kids did these past couple years.  Luckily for Matthew, he had a year in the dorms and a year-and-a-half in his fraternity, so he had a good base of friends that he will have for years to come.  The facilities at SDSU are also vastly improved since the early 80’s. Viejas Arena, Aztec Recreation Center, the trolley station, and other facilities are amazing!  While our experiences might have been a little different from that perspective, we both migrated to the beach area our senior years, which continues to be a rite of passage for many!

How does SDSU impact your lives today?
Brian: I am still great friends to this day with my freshman roommate and our next-door neighbors in the dorm!  We get together whenever we can and still reminisce about our time at SDSU. I’m also great friends with other SDSU alumni that I’ve met after graduation. We enjoy going to football and basketball games on a regular basis. Matthew continues live with one of his freshman roommates and is planning to continue to do the same, while entering the business world! It’s great to make lifelong friends while going to school at SDSU!
