Did your college experience influence your parenting style? If so, how?
Todd: Yes, my experience at SDSU taught me about how to balance competing priorities. It
taught me that having intentional habits can enable people to accomplish their goals
and have a great time in the process. I tried to pass on that sense of balance to
our three boys.
Did your dad’s education at SDSU inspire you to attend?
Tyler: Yes, I would say it influenced my decision quite a bit, along with the combination
of constantly going to basketball and football games as we were growing up. Also meeting
a lot of my dad’s friends who were alumni contributed to my decision to attend San
Diego State.
How do you think your SDSU experience was different from Tyler’s?
Todd: SDSU has progressed a long way since I attended in the late 80s. It has become much
harder to get admitted. Also, our school has become much more focused on academic
achievement and providing an environment where the path to graduation is clearer than
it was in the past. The Aztec pride has always been there but, with the sports programs
and the on-campus Viejas Arena and new football stadium, the sense of community is
better than ever.
When do you anticipate earning your bachelor’s degree?
Tyler: I will earn my B.S. in the spring of 2023 in financial services
How does it feel to have a next-generation Aztec in the family?
Todd: Having SDSU now as a generational aspect of our family has been great. The shared
experiences of campus life and some of the same great experiences that are unique
to SDSU, and the San Diego community, have been and will continue to be a blessing
for us. I know that Tyler will enjoy the lifelong friendships and terrific start that
SDSU gives all those lucky enough to call themselves Aztecs for Life.
