Student Research Symposium
San Diego State University’s 14th annual Student Research Symposium (SRS).
Six students from the Fowler College of Business were named as winners in San Diego State University’s annual Student Research Symposium (SRS) award ceremony on March 5, 2022.

Now in its 14th year, SRS provides a forum for SDSU students to present their original research, scholarship, or creative activities to a panel of judges through poster and oral presentations.

Management information systems student, Vincent Tran, was recognized with the Provost’s Award for his research into “Digital Innovation Potency in SMEs. His faculty advisor was MIS professor Kaveh Abhari.

Abhari also served as the faculty advisor for other Fowler students, including current MBA student Timothy Seitola (’20, MIS) and Kadeem Coad (MIS) on their project “Digital Entrepreneurial Mindset” and Claire Wu (accountancy) for her project “Cybersecurity and Risk Initiative in Big Accounting Firms: An Experimental Perspective.” Seitola and Coad were recognized with a Dean’s Award and Wu received an Undergraduate Research Excellence Award. Psychology student and Library Award honoree, Emma Tsztook was also advised by Abhari on her project titled “Employee Experience with Digital Transformation: From Culture Readiness to Active Participation”.

All of the students mentored by Abhari at this year’s SRS are members of Fowler’s Digital Innovation Lab (DILab) which focuses “on the study, adoption, and implementation of new technologies to develop human-centered approaches to digital transformation.”

Other Fowler students recognized during SRS were general business major Julia Stasio and marketing major, Michael Rumfola for their research on “Mapping the Everyday Lives of the Houseless.” They, along with two other SDSU students, Athziri Flores, and Mia Almanza, were honored with a Dean’s Award. Their advisor was Bruce Appleyard, SDSU professor of city planning and urban design.

Each winning project received a cash award ranging from $500 to $150 per project.
