Armaan Ahluwalia meets with SMBA ‘22

Sports MBA alumnus Armaan Ahluwalia (SMBA ‘15), Senior Manager of Partnership Insights at BSE Global and co-host of the Sports Business Strategy podcast, recently took the time to meet with SMBA ‘22 and offer his insight into career development, revenue-side analytics, and much more.

Ahluwalia offered the class tips on strategic networking, creating authentic meaningful connections, and setting themselves up for success post-graduation. The conversation was engaging, with students able to ask the Canada native questions pertaining to his successful career. Post-SDSU, Ahluwalia started his sports business career in the NFL, during which time he was one of an astonishing four SDSU Sports MBA to win a championship at Super Bowl LIV. Now with the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, Ahluwalia offered students insight gained from working with two of the most successful franchises in the U.S.’s top revenue generating leagues.

In addition to his lecture to the class, Ahluwalia set aside a full day to meet with students one-one-one to offer more specific career advice, learn more about their interests, and talk about sports business trends. SMBA ‘22 students were extremely appreciative of the chance to connect with him individually, and look forward to keeping in touch.

Will Young (SMBA ‘22), one of the Sports MBA students who met with Ahluwalia one-on-one, found it helpful to connect with such an accomplished alumnus. According to Young, “What really stood out to me was that Armaan showed us that relationships and how you treat people truly matter. He took time out of his busy schedule to visit with us in San Diego and give us invaluable career advice, which showed me how much I want to pay that forward to future Sports MBA cohorts down the road. Hearing about the career path of someone as successful as Armaan truly puts the journey that my cohort has ahead of us into an exciting perspective.”

SMBA ‘22 would like to thank Armaan Ahluwalia for taking the time to speak with our class, sharing his experiences and networking tips, and taking the extra step of meeting students one-on-one.
