Hi Everyone! My name is Allie Pelletier and I am a rising senior at San Diego State University graduating in May 2022. I am majoring in Business Administration with a Specialization in Human Resource Management. I realized my passion for Human Resources (HR) when I started on the recruitment team for my sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta. I have served as our Director of Continuous Open Bidding, Assistant Director of Recruitment, and Vice President of Recruitment. These roles pushed me to continue my journey in pursuing Human Resources and my summer internship at Insmed Inc. has surely solidified that decision for me.

Below is a glimpse into what a “typical” day is like for me at Insmed:

I say “typical” because the best and most challenging part of this experience has been that no day is exactly the same!

8:30 am - This is when my third alarm of the morning goes off and I decide it is finally time to get out of bed and get ready! Since my program is virtual it is very easy to get up and be ready in thirty minutes.

8:58 am - My final alarm goes off for the morning as a reminder to leave my room and go to the basement where I have my desk and internship setup.

9:00 am - I begin working at 9:00 am. The first thing I always do is open my calendar and check my email to see if I missed anything from the night before and take note of my day’s schedule. I take the first hour to answer any emails, set up any meetings for the next week, and make sure I have all my work done for meetings that day.

10:00 am - I get started working on my current projects, whether it be analyzing employee surveys, researching pipelining tactics for talent acquisition, or creating slide decks to present information about roundtables we have been holding.

12:00pm - Lunch Time! I love to take my thirty-minute lunch break to relax, catch up with my mom, and enjoy a good sandwich.

12:30 pm - During the afternoon, I have meetings with the HR team to discuss current projects, ask any questions, or present to them the tasks I've completed.

2:00 pm - Everyday I have an array of meetings with various departments within HR. On Tuesdays, I meet with the Talent Acquisition team to go over any updates from the previous week. On Wednesdays, I meet with my supervisor Jamie Johnson, the Senior Director of Human Resources, to reflect on the progress I’m making. On Thursdays, I meet with Karen Dimsey, the Director of Talent Acquisition, to review the previous week and ask any questions about my future career search.

3:00 pm - By late afternoon, I like to give myself a screen break to clear my mind by filling up my water bottle and spending time with my family.

3:15 pm - During the next hour and a half of the day I finish up any projects or research that I am working on that day. I like to send off any new work I have completed to my team for review!

4:45 pm: Once the project is sent off, I spend the last fifteen minutes of my day making sure that I have accepted any meeting invites for the next day and preparing my notes and questions for any early morning meetings the following day.

5:00 pm: My workday is over and because I work in my basement all I have to do is organize my papers and head upstairs to start getting ready for dinner.

“Interning at Insmed has been one of the most rewarding experiences being able to learn and work with so many talented and experienced individuals. Every day was a new adventure and I was able to learn something new from Excel skills, to building on my verbal and written communication, or analyzing information into a high-level overview.
