The Fowler College of Business is highlighting TAMID, a student organization that helps students gain hands-on experience learning from entrepreneurs in Israel. These connections help students gain global business skills that prepare them for their post-graduation career journey. Samantha Ruderman (Junior, Marketing), President of TAMID, describes the events TAMID plans, how they work with Israeli entrepreneurs, and more!

About TAMID

Q: What events, gatherings, and activities does your organization host?

Our organization has weekly meetings in which we bring in guest speakers, hold workshops, and events in which our members gain tools and skills they can use in the real world. Our members will gain experience and business skills. We also collaborate with other organizations on campus such as the Entrepreneurship Society and Women in Business.

Q: Why should students join your organization?

Students should join TAMID because we offer a hands-on experience that offers insight on the business world from a global perspective, including from entrepreneurs in Israel. TAMID is #1 in practicality and realism. TAMID is a new organization here on the SDSU campus; however TAMID is all around the world and has over 60 chapters including new chapters in London and Australia.

Q: How can a student get involved with your organization?

Students can apply using the application form! Recruitment has officially closed for TAMID and we received over 60 applicants this semester. Our application will open again in the Spring and can be found in our Instagram bio. We currently have over 70 members in TAMID including both new and active members.

Q: How does your organization connect with the community outside of SDSU?

We work with Israeli entrepreneurs and start-up companies in Israel. We also bring in speakers in the San Diego community. TAMID offers students so many amazing opportunities. TAMID opens the door for many jobs as some of the students begin working for the Israeli start-up companies after their semester-long projects. Other members have received a 5-star rating during their Project Manager role (the student who is the liaison between the Israeli CEO and the members) have been offered jobs from places such as Deloitte, Price Waterhouse, and JP Morgan.

Q: Anything else you’d like to add about your organization.

TAMID also offers a fellowship. The TAMID Group Fellowship, in partnership with Onward Israel, is a competitive, 8-week summer internship program that provides outstanding TAMID leaders with the opportunity to work with host companies in Israel while living in Israel.

Q & A with Samantha Ruderman, TAMID President

Q: As a student leader involved with an organization at SDSU, can you share why you got involved and what your experience has been like so far?

I became involved with organizations at SDSU because when my freshman year of college was virtual with the COVID pandemic. I could not easily meet students through classes so instead I joined organizations. This helped me expand my friendships and go outside of my comfort zone.

Q: What experience with your organization has been the most impactful?

I have gained hands-on experience working directly with Israeli entrepreneurs. I’ve improved my skills in public speaking, communicating, leadership, and so much more. I have also met many amazing students who have become like family to me. I would have no idea where my life would be if I did not have TAMID and all of the people I met through this organization.

Q: Why is getting involved on campus important to you?

TAMID paired up with Lavin Entrepreneurship Society for VentureStart.

This campus offers so many amazing opportunities outside of the classroom. Through these opportunities you gain skills as well as meeting people who will become your best friends. Through these organizations, I have found friendships that feel like family and a support system that pushes me to become the best version of myself.

Q: What has been your favorite SDSU memory so far?

My favorite SDSU memory so far was the Noah Hytken Memorial Fund basketball tournament last Spring. This tournament meant so much to me and was something that I am extremely proud of. The tournament brought together thousands of students and honored my dear friend, Noah, who passed away in October 2020. The tournament continued to honor Noah’s legacy and left an impact on the students in the SDSU community.

Q: What is the best advice you have for future Fowler College of Business students?

I would say to get involved with as many programs as you can. These opportunities will help you gain skills and meet new people. I have already grown so much in the past two years due to all of the organizations I’ve been involved with.

Q: What is the best advice you have received during your time at SDSU?

The best advice I received is to enjoy every moment of college. I know it sounds cliche but your time at SDSU really does go by so fast. I can't believe I am already halfway done with college. I think it is so important to get involved and meet new people.

Q: What career aspirations do you have following your time at SDSU?

I want to help start-up companies with their social media and marketing.
