Dr. Nikhil Varaiya
Nikhil (Nik) Varaiya has been a professor of finance since 1988 and the director of SDSU’s Graduate Business Programs since 2011. In addition, he has taught in the Executive MBA Program (EMBA) since 1990 and served as chair of the finance department from 1991 to 2008.
Varaiya currently teaches courses in competitive analysis and strategic financial management in the EMBA program and a course in financing emerging enterprises in SDSU’s MBA program. He has twice been named the Most Influential Professor by the college’s top undergraduate finance student in both 2010 and 2012 and as the Most Outstanding Faculty Member by the EMBA graduates nine times, most recently in 2016.
His research and articles have been published in Journal of Finance, Management Science, Strategic Management Journal and the Journal of Financial Services Research, among many others.
He earned both his MBA and his Ph.D. from the University of Washington, Seattle.
