Fowler College of Business Welcomes Six New Professors for 2018-2019

Five new tenure-track professors and one visiting professor join the Fowler College of Business this fall as the college kicks off the 2018-2019 academic year.

Faten Ben Bouheni – Visiting Professor (Finance):

Visiting faculty member, Faten Ben Bouheni, comes to SDSU from ISC Paris Business School where she is an associate professor.

After earning her doctorate in finance from the Telecom Business School in Paris, Ben Bouheni has researched and lectured on corporate finance, financial accounting and trends in European banking.

She will teach Intermediate Finance to undergraduate students.

Dwarka Chakravarty – Assistant Professor (Management):

Dwarka Chakravarty joins the Fowler College of Business as an assistant professor in the Management Department.

He recently earned his doctorate from the Ivey Business School in Canada. Prior to entering academia, he worked as a Microsoft consulting director in the Philippines and India, and at KPMG in the UK as a senior strategy consultant.

Chakravarty will teach International Business Strategy and Integration to undergraduate students.

Gabi Eissa – Assistant Professor (Management):

Gabi Eissa joins SDSU this fall as an assistant professor of management.

Prior to joining the Fowler College of Business, Eissa was an assistant management professor at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. He earned his doctorate from the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University with a concentration on organizational behavior and his research and teaching focuses on leadership, social and ethical issues in management and workplace deviance.

He will teach two sections of Management and Organizational Behavior to undergraduate students.

Gabi Eissa

Edward F. Pierzak - Associate Professor (Finance):

Real estate researcher and financial expert Edward F. Pierzak joins The Corky McMillin Center for Real Estate as the centeEdward Pierzakr’s director and as a faculty member in the college’s Finance Department.

Pierzak comes to SDSU from Bridge Investment Group in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he was the managing director of investment strategy. He previously served as the managing director of strategy and research for TIAA’s Global Real Estate investment management team. Dr. Pierzak earned his doctorate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his research has been published in academic journals and distributed as white papers throughout the industry.

Nita Umashankar – Assistant Professor (Marketing):

Coming to SDSU from the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University, Nita Umashankar joins the Marketing Department at the start of the 2018-2019 academic year.

Umashankar earned her doctorate at the University of Texas at Austin in 2010. Her research focuses on marketing strategy, including service relationships and mergers and acquisitions. She has earned several awards both as an outstanding educator and researcher.

Umashankar will teach courses in marketing research and consumer behavior.

Yaoyi Xi – Assistant Professor (Finance):

The Fowler College of Business welcomes Yaoyi Xi as an associate professor of finance this fall. He earned his doctorate at the University of Kansas and his Master of Science in finance at the University of Tulsa.

Xi’s areas of expertise and research include corporate finance, insider trading and initial public offerings. His current research focuses on how the personal traits of executives influence their choices of firm policies and investment decisions.

Xi will teach the Fundamentals of Finance to juniors and seniors.
