Skyler Stuart – China
Sometimes, your stomach makes life's big decisions.
At least that was the case for SDSU finance senior, Skyler Stuart. The Temecula, Calif. native knew that he wanted to study abroad during his college career, but he wasn't sure where until he checked the international study options with SDSU's College of Business Administration's Study Abroad program.
"I love Chinese food! But more importantly, I wanted to go somewhere completely different from the U.S. – somewhere outside my comfort zone," said Stuart. "Europe and Australia seemed a little too similar to the U.S. to me and I've always found Chinese culture very intriguing."

Stuart attended the Chinese University of Hong Kong during the spring semester of his junior year in 2013 and was immediately impressed by the campus. "First of all the school is unbelievably green with a really beautiful campus," he said. "what impressed me most was how international the school is. My classes were filled with people from all over the world which made for a unique learning experience."
Although there wasn't a language barrier during class (classes were taught in English), he did have somewhat of a learning curve for day-to-day living. "Luckily, I was able to rely on friends and classmates for language help," he said.
One down side of the trip - he discovered that the food in China wasn't the same as the Chinese food served in the U.S. "While I had a handful of amazing meals, but most of my day-to-day meals weren't that good," he said. "Also, meals in China are a lot smaller than American portions"
