Dr. Shira Cohen joined SDSU as an assistant professor of accounting in 2020. She has earned recognition for both her research and teaching. Prior to entering academia, Dr. Cohen gained work experience in the consulting and finance industries. She also served in government as a visiting scholar-in-residence at the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. She holds both a Ph.D. and an MBA from Columbia Business School and an undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Cohen’s research interests include corporate governance, climate risk and ESG, corporate disclosure and investments. At SDSU, she teaches Intermediate Accounting (I and II) at the undergraduate level, and managerial accounting at the graduate level. She also has prior experience teaching executive education.
